The Wah-Wah Chronicles: Chapter Two

Today our “Wah”s were caused by lack of food on our cruise ship.  Lack of food on a cruise ship?? Whoever heard such nonsense??  Well clearly, you’ve never worked on one.  As a crew member, you get served different food.  It’s pretty much cafeteria food, international version.  So most of the foods you never thought could be in the combinations they are presented to you in..  We mainly fill up on potatoes, eggs and French bagette- sounds like some people’s dream, but admittedly every night it’s boring AND bad for my health.   Dinner ends at 8:30pm(we have rehearsal at 8 so our dinner is had at about 6:30) and then there is no other food available until midnight pizza.  Once a voyage, however, there is health code cleaning and then stay up super late cleaning all the kitchens and bars and therefore- no pizza available L  This particular evening Ivan had only eaten plain spaghetti and mashed potatoes for dinner.  (A good choice from the other selections of mystery meat and purple weed-lettuce with Thousand Island.)  So by 11:30, we were STARVING and I am pretty sure it was my birthday and we hadn’t even had cake.  The night was memorable thanks to some classic moments/one-liners from Mr. Ivan over here.

We keep some snacks around, so I popped some popcorn and opened a Coke Zero that we split, but this man was still burnin’ hungry.
“I can’t survive on just candy and chips!” –pretty sure your 6 year old self just punch his future self in the face..

“What I wouldn’t give for just some bread…and maybe a little butter” –sad, sad life we live..

Me: “Remember when we ate humus and chips every night after work in New York?  Snake River Rosemary and Olive Oil chips, with hummus..  and watermelon?” (from my favorite Big Jin’s- as seen in the new Spiderman movie, I am very proud ;))
Ivan: (pout, pout) Tell me more of the things we’d eat in New York..
I continue to list off all our favorite restaurants and dishes and favorite meals me had at home..

The next night we were at a port overnight and stayed up late eating pork fried rice, veggie Spring rolls and Tempura Prawn.. Everything always works out in the end!!
