3 Weeks Aboard!!!
I have been writing a lot of letters
lately; to my mom, my sister, real long one ones that go into too many details,
girl time tmi and bratty-rude opinions and comments that I dare not post for
all to see. I have learned so much about
myself, my culture and other people’s cultures and I have only been working
here for 3 weeks. CHECKPOINT!!
Us 6 are
the only Americans who work here. There
are about 5-20% American Guests(passengers) so we are definitely in the
minority.
I watch Fox news evry now and then,
and I catch CNN and want everyone to rest assured my cruising life, even in the
U.A.E. all week is completely unaffected by the Civil War and hardships in the Middle East. By facebook standards, I am doin’ alright and
still having fun with my digital camera.
I miss simple things. Like, I’m running out of Claritin and eye
drops and I haven’t been able to read the calories in English on any packaged
food-of which I eat a lot less of. But, I am getting used to my new surrounding. I am happy with the fact I haven’t heard Call Me Maybe for an entire month and I
only though about it today because I get the urge to send a picture message or
text and realize I can’t because we shut our cell phone service off- Best idea
because it would have been the biggest waste of money. Instead we spent 20 American Dollars -90AED
on the junk food we had missed/ were curious how it would taste from Abu
Dhabi.
And now…The Unfortunate Tumble of Katy
Perry
I am lucky to be working a living here
just earning awayJ I
dress up as Katy Perry once per voyage…
It’s been “colder” (60s F) and windy
at night so our Party and show (when I dress up like Katy Perry) was
canceled and instead moved to the stage where there are an unfortunate amount
of stairs. Let’s think about this equation folks…
6-7inch heels + staircase + bright lights
I made it down the step okay but
became too confident, too quickly, and failed my landing (I wish I had some
fab5 comment to add, but I failed at watching the Olympics this summer.) Just a
few ankle wobbles on each leg and I was down on my knees during the already
unfortunate and inappropriate lyric of the song: “Sex on the Beach…we don’t
mind [falling] in our stilettos…blahblah Snoop Doggy Dogg on the stereo.” The crowd, already awkward Foreigners
thinking “who the heck is Katy Perry and why is she naked on stage with purple
hair?”, sounded like a soccer game. As
each ankle stumbled came an audible: “Oh…Aww” and as I really did stick the
landing- on both knees with one arm up with pride and the other arm still
clutching my microphone- came a giant “YAY!” It was AWESOME!! I am completely
unhurt and very glad that it happened.
Thus became the unfortunate stumble of Katy Perry that earned her cast a
9.5 rating. (Probably not, but a girl can dream right?)
Thank you for that delicious plate of cookies. I totally deserved 4 tonight! HAHAHAHAhaha!! watched the taping of it this morning and had an AWESOME laugh! I love live theatre!!!
So glad you're not hurt, and I can imagine that the elite crowd aboard would question "who's Katy Perry" Haha love you!
